Sleep baby sleep

Sleep, baby, sleep,
Your father tends the sheep
Your mother shakes the dreamland tree
And from it fall sweet dreams for thee
Sleep, baby, sleep
Sleep, baby, sleep

Lovely words and how wonderful it is to see your baby sleep. But, all parents know that it’s a big task to make your babies sleep. Very tiring, isn’t it. So why not today we talk about some of the magical tricks that can soothe your baby and put her to sleep.

·        None of us like being kept awake when we are craving sleep, so rather than waiting until your baby is ‘past it’, put her to bed as soon as she shows sleepy signs such as becoming quiet, losing interest in people and toys, and fussing.

·        Silent nights could be at your fingertipsMassage your baby in the night 15 minutes before her sleep.

·        The calming, repetitive sounds of traditional lullabies recall the ‘womb music’ your baby heard before birth. Baby music that incorporates elements such as the rhythm of the maternal heartbeat or ‘white noise’ has remarkable soothing effects, especially if played continuously through the night.

·        The motion of a rocking chair or being carried in a sling will lull baby to sleep.

·        Swaddle your baby and put her to sleep

·        Mothers and babies who sleep together, share the same sleep cycles, so these mothers get more sleep overall.

·        Teach baby the difference between night and day by keeping the lights low and attending to him quietly during night feeds. Save play and chatter for daytime.

Tips for first time parents

It's always the most cherishing time, when you welcome your little one back home. It’s a “this is it” moment for you and your spouse. Especially a victory feeling for the mother, who has survived and fought good and bad times during the 9 months of pregnancy and the tiresome labour pain.
Once home, though, you frantically realize you have no idea what you're doing!
·        Talk to experts-Always speak to doctors, lactation consultants or feeding specialists to guide you how to feed your baby. Remember, it takes time to get it right. So don’t worry or push the panic button. Its always advisable to learn feeding the baby correctly before you et discharged from the hospital.
·        You definitely need help-Ensure you have either your mother or mother-in law or your close relatives to be besides you once you are back home. They can act as guiding force and a great moral support for you.
·        You should take care of yourself- always note, that you should be taking care of yourself all the time. Feeding drains and takes away a lot of energy. Keep yourself always hydrated and happy. Remember first two months will be very tiring, as baby takes time to adjust. You will be sleep deprived. There are times when you may feel frustrated or depressed, take things in your stride. Look at your baby’s sweet angelic face and I am sure you will be able to surpass all your worries.
·        How to handle your newborn baby- Always wash your hands or use hand Sanitizers before touching your little one. Be very strict and insist on cleaning hands even to your guests before they carry the baby, which will enable to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Newborns are prone to get infections, so always maintain hygiene.
·        Cradle the head when carrying your baby and support the head when carrying the baby upright or when you lay your baby down.
·        Be careful and do not shake the baby. Newborns are  very fragile, delicate.
·        Bonding is of utmost importance. Physical touch of the mother and baby is very important. The babies feel more secured with mother’s body warmth. Always remember to burp your baby after every feed.    Don’t worry too much. Keep blabbering, talking to your child. Most of the children enjoy it.

How to baby proof the room

It's always an enchanting moment, when you welcome your little baby in your home. But, remember, with all the happiness surrounded in the air, it’s the responsibility of you and your spouse to take care of safety measures as well. Always baby proof the room on a priority basis. It's always said it's better to be safe than never.

·        Keep the baby room neat and clean. No dust or dirt should be there in the surrounding. Keep vacuum cleaning and changing bedsheets on a regular basis.

·        A general rule of thumb: Anything that fits through a cardboard toilet paper roll is a choking hazard.

·        Cleaning products, sharp implement—cabinets hold all sorts of hazards to children.

·        The easiest way to child proof, just about any room or object such as stairs is to prevent your child from getting near. The best baby proofing solution to prevent your child climbing the stairs is a baby gate or fence. A baby gate will prevent your child from going anywhere near the staircase. A properly installed baby gate will hamper your curious child’s access even when you are not watching.

·        Have a giant rubber mat in the kids’ bathtub to prevent slips and falls. Always make sure that the bathroom doors are never kept open while you are busy with some other work.

·        Do your best to remove or modify the most obvious of dangers, but recognize that a certain amount of bumps and falls are a completely okay and normal part of growing up. Cover up outlets, bolt tall furniture to the walls, move sharp or toxic items far out of reach, keep dangerous appliances like shredders, toasters and blenders unplugged.

·        Keep pillows on either side of the bed when your baby is sleeping, to prevent a baby fall. Keep all the plastic toys and soft toys away from the babies till they grow up and become 6 to 1 year old. Always keep a watch on what the babies are playing with.

Diaper Rash

Sweet little babies have always been wrapped in diapers all throughout the day. Please be kind to their sensitive little skin. Don’t always use diapers. Try to minimize the usage to protect your child’s skin. You can try to use light clothing if its warm and hot in your place. If it’s cold, still you can keep your baby away from diapers till it's absolutely essential.

Always remember with diapers, accompanies diaper rash. What should you do? When your child develops reddishness or a rash, please chuck diapers till it gets healed. Try warming up coconut oil slightly and apply in that area. You can also apply good diaper rash creams like Dr Reddy’s Ezi napi cream, Pfizer’s rashfree cream and if the rash still persists, consult your child’s pediatrician. Remember cotton clothing always heals wounds faster. You can try making your child wear underwear, nappies made of pure cotton. Don’t use any synthetic or satin stuff.

Since babies are small, they urinate frequently. Use long sarees, fold them in half and roll them, and wrap them as it gets wet in a rolling manner. Keep rubber sheet below it. Always try to use natural products for your babies. If you have any doubt, first consult the doctor and then apply to your child.  Use diapers as far as possible during night time. Always keep using Johson’s baby powder on your babies’ soft skin. Use the powder liberally and try to use at least 4 to 5 times in a day. Always remember after your child passes stools, clean it with water and then dry and apply powder. You can also use Johnsons baby skin care wipes. Learn, teach your child in the loving way

In this cut throat world of competition, you as a mother will wonder when should I start teaching my lovely angel or my James bond. Some parents may think that it may not be necessary to teach them before the baby reaches school. But, like I said, every step of life is a teaching process. It's always good to start teaching early. Not, because you want your kid to be a front runner in the rat race, but to make the bond between you and your child to remember forever. Don’t go linear with teaching way. Try to innovate and make learning interesting. Let’s list few steps.
·        The child always learns through your eyes and emotions. Always blabber nursery rhymes, or ABCs, 123s when you are spending quality time with your kid.
·        Read fairy tales or lovely picture books, before you make your child sleepy.
·        Even bathing time can get inventive, if you teach few important basics while you bather your kid. You can also use plastic bath toys and make your kid play with them.
·        You can buy online educational games like aBC flashcards, picture books, 123 book, interesting CDs of nursery rhymes . Firstcry.com, snapdeal.com, amazon.in are few sites that you can log in and get good value pack deals at your doorstep.
·        When you are travelling with your kid, you can educate as well.

Surely, in the bargain you will learn as well.  Enjoy parenting and teaching.

COLD AND COUGH IN KIDS

Being a mother, is one of the most challenging jobs present in the world. You may falter, or tire yourself out, but you gotta keep going.  There are no casual leaves or vacations in this job profile. It’s a responsibility that keeps increasing with your child’s age. It’s a 24 hours’ work. But, think and ponder, you get lovely returns as well, lots of love, tight huggies, unconditional kisses and nonstop conversations that keep you alive and up for the responsibility. Isn’t it worth the effort? Yes, of course.

Today, we will talk about the most common problem faced by your child, cold and cough.
Its always horrid to see your child sneezing and coughing and not having proper appetite. As a mother what should one do?
·        Give lots of love and comfort to your child
·        Don’t lose your cool, be patient.
·        Keep your child warm.
·        Offer warm liquids like soups and vegetable stews to him/her
·        Ask your child to take enough rest. Be lenient in giving your kid her favourite video game, or ipad, iphones so that they feel happy and relaxed.
·        Along with medications that are prescribed by your pediatrician, you can try home made medicines to give your child some relief. You can make tulsi tea, put 2 leaves of basil leaves and make the tea. It will help clear the congestion. Or you can give honey mixed with warm water or honey with ginger juice.
·        Make home – made food for your kid. Give khichdi, with moong dal and rice. Don’t spice it up. Just add a little hing, jeera salt and moong dal rice . make it a bit watery so that it can easily be eaten.
·        Don’t give any fried or oily stuff.
·        Give lots of fruits to eat. If eating is difficult, then make fresh juices. Avoid citric fruits as it increases soarness in the throat.
·        In the night, before bedtime you can give haldi milk. That’s turmeric powdered milk . boil the milk, add turmeric powder and sugar and let it reduce to half the quantity. Strain and then give it to your kid
·        Don’t give any container food or outside food.
·        Before bedtime, you should apply vicks on your kid’s chest, back and his foot. Make him wear socks and cover himself properly. It works like magic and they get sound sleep without too much cough.
